  1. TRANSIENT STUDENT INFORMATION A Transient Student is a student who wishes to attend an institution other than their home institution on a temporary basis. The student must take the recommended courses advised by their home institution in order for the courses to be approved for transfer back to their home institution.

  2. Complete admissions application • The admissions application is available online under Potential Students - Apply Online or in person at any of the three campuses (Wheeling, New Martinsville and Weirton).

  3. Check 17a. As Transient Student

  4. On 20a. Fill in 900T

  5. Obtain a Transient Letter • This required letter from the registrar at the student’s home school serves both as a waiver of prerequisite courses and as a protection for the student on the agreement of transfer or coursework back to their home institution. This letter can be mailed or hand delivered by the student.

  6. registration • Students should receive an email or letter of acceptance giving instructions how to register for courses online. • There is a PowerPoint on the website with instructions under student services for added help with registration. • There are also instructions under the Quick links section on the website (Let’s Get Started – WVNCC Access Guide)

  7. Payment for courses • Payment is required by the LAST DAY TO PAY published in the schedule of classes on website. If last day to pay has passed then payment is required upon day of registration. • Students who plan to use financial aid must have a CONSORTIUM AGREEMENT sent directly from their home institution to WVNCC before the LAST DAY TO PAY or before registration of classes. • Transientstudents are not eligible for financial aid through WVNCC.

  8. TRANSCRIPTS • Transcripts are not automatically sent to student’s home school after classes are completed. Students can fill out a transcript request form at the WVNCC campus service center or request them through NOW Access in the Student Portal.

  9. Promise scholarship?? • Students attempting to make up hours or improve GPA for the PROMISE Scholarship are advised to also check with their home institution financial aid office to be sure of the timeline for submitting grades. Courses that are Pass/Fail may not qualify for Promise. Promise students are encouraged to thoroughly check out all information with their home institution prior to registering for any classes.
