How can the non-DES Scientists make use of DES/DEC data? • They need the ability to TAKE/REDUCE image data and produce object catalogs (data) • They need the ability to DISCOVER (archival) data • They need the ability to MOVE data • They need the ability to UNDERSTAND data • They need the ability to ANALYZE data What observing/reduction recipes will be required? What archival data does the DES/DEC make available? What does the DES/DEC image pipeline produce in standard operations? How does someone discover, understand, and “retrieve” DES/DEC data? Who provides the analysis/reduction engines?

  2. The DES/DEC Data Products • Image data and all related (DES/DEC) • Image catalog data and all related (DES/DEC) • Cluster catalogs (DES) • Weak lensing maps (DES) • Difference Image light curves (DES) • What else?

DES/DEC Community Requirements • What types of image data? • The options: raw images, reduced images, co-added images, calibration images, transmission curves, CCD response curves, raw and reduced metadata (fits headers + external), pixel masks, monitor data, logs, etc.) • The standards: 2MASS: reduced Atlas, Postage Stamps, Large Galaxy Cutouts; SDSS: reduced fields (like 2MASS Atlas); atlases (like 2MASS postage stamps), masks, psf’s, skies, + more; HST (old) calibrated, (new) un-calibrated, logs, data quality assessments; XMM raw un-calibrated

DES/DEC Community Requirements-Catalogs • What’s in the Object Catalogs? • The options: per image SeXtractor outputs, additional module outputs on objects (shape parameters, what else?), co-added object catalogs, clusters, star/galaxy separation, photo-z’s, randoms, completeness corrections, masks, k-corrections, additional value-added-- photometrically IDed QSOs, local density measures, Bulge/Disk ratios, transients, transient difference light curves, anomalies, what else? • The standards: SDSS (all of the above and more); 2MASS 389 columns for XSC: (1) Position; (2) Standard photometry; (3) Large aperture photometry and SB; (4) Misc. photometry and quality (many columns).NDWFS: SeXtractor outputs
