  9. Belize Literacy Project Challenges: • Poorly prepared teachers who need significant development to use the teaching materials • Lack of community leadership to address on going facility maintenance and equipment issues • A developed world approach to Belize challenges

Literacy Alive: Cayo Region Addresses the challenges: • Support the implementation of the literacy, math and science teaching materials with local solutions • Support community leadership development (capacity development) for school facilities/maintenance and equipment that are locally relevant • Youth leadership development
