Volgograd region of the Russian Federation History • 1589 the city was founded – the fortress Tsaritsyn, which had become the largest industrial centre of the Volga region by XX century • 1925 the city was renamed Stalingrad, and under this name it left the mark in the world history as the hero-city, where one of the greatest battles of the Great Patriotic War took place • 1961 the city was name Volgograd

Volgograd region of the Russian Federation Nowadays • Volgograd region - the largest and the most important industrially oriented region of the Southern Federal District of Russia. • The area of the region is 11,3 mln. sq. meters, where 78% - lands intended for agriculture. • Population of the region is over 2.6 mln. people. (urban - 75,2%, rural - 24,8%). • 1506 settlements, included in 39 municipal districts: 6 cities of the regional subordination and 33 rural districts. • The city of Volgograd is the centre of Volgograd region and one of 12 Russian cities with population exceeding one million.

The most important rivers of the European part of Russia such as the Volga and the Don are joined by the Volgo-Don canal in Volgograd region. Accesses: • to seas – Caspian, White, Baltic, Black - Azov and Mediterranean basins; • to the countries – Iran and Iraq, India, countries of Mediterranean basin, North Europe (Scandinavian countries) and others.

Volgograd region of the Russian Federation Industrial potential Industrial complex of Volgograd region includes over 2 thous. enterprises: • machine building and metal working (cranes, tractors, agricultural machines); • ferrous and nonferrous-metals industry (steel, rolled iron), chemical and petrochemical (oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, caustic soda, chemicals for plant protection, synthetic and plastic materials); • food industry; • manufacture of construction materials; • consumer goods and textile industries. In total about 30 % of the industrial output of the Southern Federal District.

Beneficial natural and economic conditions and resources determine our region as the largest manufacturer of: • grains, including strong and durum wheat; • sunflower; • mustard; • vegetables, melons and gourds; • fruits.

Volgograd region of the Russian Federation Natural recourses Companies of Volgograd region have already prospected and extract now such minerals as: • oil; • natural gas; It is worth mentioning huge natural resources of hydrocarbons – over 500 mln. tons of oil, 1.2 tln. cubic meters of gas and over 450 mln. tons of gas condensate. • phosphorites; • table salt; • mortar sand; • mineral waters; • potash salts (two deposits of potash minerals were prospected and extracted); • bischofite. Prospected bischofite (magnesium chlorate salt) deposits are huge (over 250 bln. tons) and unique. The bischofite deposit located in Volgograd region is one of the largest deposits in the world, it is very valuable natural mineral and consists of lots of periodic table elements. This deposit is located near the industrial processing plant of the city of Volgograd.

Historical monuments: • Mamaev Hill and the statutory group «The Motherland calls!» (one of the highest statues in the world,height - 52 meters); • State historical and ethnographical museum «Old Sarepta»; • Federal state historical and memorial museum «Stalingrad battle»; • over 450 unique historical monuments.

Such organizations as the Centre of technology transfer, the Venture Fond and the Regional Business-Incubator were established in Volgograd region.Their missionis aimed at supporting of innovative projects in the region. The most near-term prospect is development of regional technoparks.

Construction of a new plant producing midi- and minibuses on the basis of the current plant Place of project implementation: city of Volzhsky of Volgograd region. Industrial zone. Project description: construction of a new plant producing midi- and minibuses with the output of 3 thousand items per year. Consolidation of production capacities, research and development complex and small business companies producing component parts. Project partners: ZAO Bus Plant Volzhanin, Administration of Volgograd region, Development Corporation. Project value and financing: the project requires investments in the amount of 600 million roubles. The first stage construction of the production complex is 80 % completed. Terms of investing: 3rd quarter 2011 – 1st quarter 2014. The payback period is 5-6 years. Offer for investors: to become a partner in the project implementation. Various methods of attraction of investments, such as shares acquiring, project financing etc. are considered.

  12. Investment projects of Volgograd region • 2. Construction of a cement plant in Volgograd region Place of project implementation: Kamyshinsky district of Volgograd region. Project description: construction of a new cement plant with the capacity of up to 1.9 million tons per year using the “dry” method technology. The project includes creation of a modern high-tech production unit with the use of the own raw materials base. Project partners: ZAO Volgo-Cement, Administration of Volgograd region, Development Corporation. Project value and financing: the project requires investments in the amount of 10.4 billion roubles. 0.5 billion roubles have been already spent for the project. Terms of investing: 3rd quarter 2011 - 1st quarter 2014. The payback period is 7.45 years. Offer for investors: to become a partner in the project implementation. Various methods of attraction of investments, such as shares acquiring, project financing etc. are considered.

  13. Investment projects of Volgograd region 3. Modernization of Volgograd Airport The airport complex consists of two parts: Terminal-200, built in 1959, and Pavilion-700, built in 1971, with the total capacity of 900 passengers per hour. The reconstruction of Pavilion-700 will enable to replace the sector of international flights from the old building of the airport. A new arrival lounge for passengers of international flights is to be built here. The lounge will include a separate baggage claim area, equipped in compliance with the new requirements and international standards. It is planned to introduce equipment for electronic registration of passengers. It is planned to reconstruct the baggage claim area and to equip it with modern conveyor systems with the purpose of better service and convenience of passengers of internal flights. General economic indices Payback period for the runaway is 20 years. Payback period for the terminal complex is 9 years. Required amount of investments: runaway – 21 800 million roubles, reconstruction of the terminal complex – 450 million roubles.
