  2. Run … Seek … Can You Find A Man? Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem; See now and know; And seek in her open places If you can find a man, If there is anyone who executes judgment, Who seeks the truth, And I will pardon her. (Jer. 5:1)

  3. Out of Wedlock Births 33% 2 0 0 0 Ask these children to find godly men and it will be difficult for them. Children Who Lived Without Biological Father 34%

  4. Who Does God Recognize As A Man? • One who seeks judgment & truth (Jer. 5:1) • Godly men like Abraham (Gen. 18:19) • Godly men like Manoah (Judg. 13:12) • Godly men who will not deal treacherously with their wife (Mal. 2:14-15) Those Whom God Recognizes As A Man Will Be A Blessing In Their Home, The Church, and In Society

  5. Exodus 34:7 "keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation." WORLD GOD CULTURE IS SHIFTING THE ROLE OF THE HEADSHIP OF MAN

  6. Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people. WORLD GOD CULTURE IS SHIFTING THE ROLE OF THE HEADSHIP OF MAN

  7. GOD WORLD Head of House: Gen. 2:18-24 1 Tim. 2:12-13 Eph. 5:23 1 Tim. 5:8 Eph. 6:4 High Divorce Rates Out of Wedlock Births Single Mothers by Choice DEFINED ROLE REDEFINED ROLE

  8. High Divorce Rates … Out of Wedlock Births … Single Mothers By Choice “In the postwar generation more than 80 percent of children grew up in a family with two biological parents who were married to each other. By 1980 only 50 percent could expect to spend their entire childhood in an intact family. If current trends continue, less than half of all children born today will live continuously with their own mother and father throughout childhood” (Whitehead).

  9. High Divorce Rates … Out of Wedlock Births … Single Mothers By Choice “…the United States has made divorce easier and quicker than in any other Western nation with the sole exception of Sweden – and the trend toward solo motherhood has also been more pronounced in America.” In 1960, five percent of the births were out-of-wedlock births, but that number jumped to twenty-seven percent in 1990 (Whitehead)

  10. High Divorce Rates … Out of Wedlock Births … Single Mothers By Choice Motherhood no longer defines adult womanhood, as everyone knows; equally important is the fact that fatherhood has declined as a norm for men. In 1976 less than half as many fathers as in 1957 said that providing for children was a life goal. The proportion of working men who found marriage and children burdensome and restrictive more than doubled in the same period. Fewer than half adult Americans today regard the idea of sacrifice for others as a positive moral virtue (Whitehead).

  11. Other Trends Leading To Cultural Shifts • Women Out Number Men In College Enrollment & Earned Degrees • Wives Can Earn More Than Their Husbands • Women Are More Politically Active

  12. Other Trends Leading To Cultural Shifts Most explanations factor in many forces, including: the transition to the post-industrial (or “information”) economy that resulted in diminished economic opportunities for lower-skilled men, especially in inner cities; greater women’s participation in the labor force, weakening their economic dependence upon marriage; the sexual revolution, aided by technological advances in contraception; welfare policies that discouraged marriage; the onset of “no fault” divorce laws; a materialistic consumer culture; and the cultural ascendance of expressive individualism and an emphasis on self-fulfillment over community and family obligations (Horn, 11)

  13. The Divine Arrangement of the Head of the Family The Husband Is the Head of the Wife (1 Tim. 2:12-14; Gen. 3:16; 1 Cor. 11:3) • Head – “anything supreme, chief, prominent; of persons, master, lord (Thayer 345). • Rule – to be over, to superintend, preside over (Thayer 539) • The Husband’s Role is one of authority, rule, and leadership, not dictatorship, tyranny, or feelings of superiority

  14. The Divine Arrangement of the Head of the Family • A Wife can be subject to her husband without loosing her equality (ie. Christ – Php 2:5-8) • A Husband can be head and ruler without being a tyrant (Pro. 31) • By loving and honoring (Eph. 5:25; 1 Pet. 3:7) • By following the example of Christ (Eph. 5:25) • By loving her as he would himself (Eph. 5:28-29)

  15. The Divine Arrangement of the Head of the Family The Man Is the Head of the Children (1 Tim. 5:8; Eph. 6:4) Psalms 127:3-5 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

  16. The Divine Arrangement of the Head of the Family The Man Is the Head of the Children (1 Tim. 5:8; Eph. 6:4) • His Responsibilities Include: • Being a provider • Care for mentally, spiritually, and socially • Disciplinarian (Heb. 12:7-8)

  17. Conclusion • Many factors contribute to the breakdown of the family, particularly the role of the man. • Underlying all these factors is a lack of respect for the Bible. • Godly men who seek justice and truth are a blessing. • “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong,” (1 C or. 16:13
