Welcome Back to the New Media programmes Remember why you are here: The New Media Programmes draw on the research knowledge, experience and expertise of a teaching team located across the School, University and Industry. The focus of both degrees is divided between design, research and technology (production). The New Media degrees have produced award winning graduates. We encourage all of our students to work toward success, producing innovative, conceptually informed research and practice projects.

  7. Changes to Your Programme At the end of last year the academic staff (in consultation with our students) made considerable changes to both MMDT and IMD degrees The new structures are here BSc Multimedia Design Technology BA Interactive Media Design

  8. Programme Reps/Committees The new programme structures demonstrate the extent to which academic staff value the comments and ideas of our students. Each semester we have a programme committee meeting chaired by the Programme Leader. Your current reps are Level 2 Aaron Bartlett Level 3 Steven Johnson Talk to your reps and have your voice heard. We also welcome all students to these meetings.

  10. You can contact staff directly via email. The Core Team for 2011-12 Dr. Tony D. Sampson is senior lecturer and Programme Leader for the New Media degrees. He leads the core research modules. His current research relates to theories of network contagion, affect and non-cognitive user experience. He received his PhD from UoE and has published widely in the New Media field. Recent publications include: The Spam Book (Hampton Press 2009), Virality: Contagion Theory in the Age of Networks (University of Minnesota Press, Due 2012). Office hours: Please email Tony on t.d.sampson@uel.ac.uk for an appointment. Jeff Ellis is a multimedia designer with a background in television and audio production. He teaches web and multimedia design, computer graphics and music technology. Office hours: Please email Jeff on jeff@uel.ac.uk for an appointment. Mary Newman has a background in media and ICT. A senior lecturer, she teaches on core modules on the Interactive Media Design, Multimedia Design Technology and Computer Games Design (Story Development) programmes. She also works with the Rix Centre, a research and development centre based at UEL. Office hours: Please email Mary on  M.Newman@uel.ac.uk for an appointment.

Visiting Lecturers in 2011/12 Nick Weldin (MS2309) is a consultant with the Rix Centre, a charity that works with people with intellectual disabilities to support them to use multimedia and computers (based at UEL). Nick is expert in software and hardware development and prototyping. He has a professional background in training and theatre and interactive installation work. He is also theco-author of The Arduino Cookbook (O’Reilly Publishing) Geoff Cruickshank (MS3304) has over ten years experience teaching multimedia and interactive media design and technology at HE level. His work focuses on design coupled with technology. During this time he has also worked as a freelancer on graphics, print, animation, TV and web based productions.
