  1. Portfolios and Wrap up Unit 3 Week of May 12

  2. Monday • Go over and do Lesson 2, Unit 3 • Print out argument materials • Intro and explain Portfolio • Work time through the week • Availability for help

  3. Misplaced Modifiers: What is wrong? • “One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas.” (Groucho Marx) • “FOR SALE: Mahogany table by a lady with Chippendale legs” (Ad in newspaper) • “Two Sisters Reunited After 18 Years in Checkout Lane” (Headline in newspaper)

Argument Materials • Print out Argument with comments – • Go to Turnitin • Open up your argument • Once opened, look for printer icon in bottom left • Click on it and choose top option. • Pdf will appear on bottom – click on it and print it • Print out clean copy of argument – do this from googledrive or from your network. • Print out any sources you used that you have not done so • Revision – • Evidence – just dropped in – not explained, not connected to reason • Paragraph – conclusion – missing or inadequate explanation • Commas • Some issues with citations • Read through comments and make notes of things to change - on your clean copy.

  6. Tuesday • Review misplaced modifiers • Finish intro to Portfolio • Make choices – what will you revise, what will you polish, and what do you need to do to make it a final. • Revise argument – print out a final AND submit a final to Turnitin.com • Select

Items to use for Revision • Draft with comments • Ten errors sheet • Transition sheet • Vocabulary sheet, especially for Personal Narrative • Please do not staple anything AND please do not use plastic sheets for any papers. • Learning Target: I can implement feedback to improve the content and expression of my writing.

  8. Wednesday: Grab a computer, take a seat, get logged on. • Revising • Goal = finish revising your argument– then do something “small.” • Take care of the Employment Skills (Journal 9) • OR • Take care of revising Journal 6 or 159 – whichever one you choose. • Then, perhaps start your Table of Contents or Dividers • Printing in Color • Learning Target: I can implement feedback to improve the content and expression of my writing.

  9. Thursday • Lesson 3 • Revise Personal Narrative • Complete one other item • Print out items and put in safe place

  10. Dangling Modifiers • Flying over the African landscape, the elephant herd looked magnificent. • Picture it. Not pretty. Hope they do not fly overhead. • Covered with hot melted cheese, we ate the pizza. • That could be painful. I really prefer my cheese on the pizza.

  11. PORTFOLIO REMINDERS • Revise – focus on content – add details, explain yourself more clearly, clarify thesis statements • Edit – check grammar, improve word choice, correct “Ten Word” errors, improve flow with use of transitions, fix Works Cited pages, correct annotations • Print what you have finished • Goal – complete revision on Personal Narrative. • Complete another item – Essay of Experience or College/Career Application essay • Learning targets: • I can revise my writing to make it more clear, add apt and specific detail, make tone appropriate for audience/purpose, and demonstrate critical thinking • I can edit for correctness: punctuation, sentence errors, capitalization, apostrophes, and agreement.

  12. Friday • Unit 3 Review first part • Work on Portfolio • Assess where you are and what you need to do • Bonus – weekend is a good time to do this • Monday – final workday – prepare for submission.
