  4. Student Behavior • Students are expected to follow classroom norms and school wide rules in all areas at all times. • Students will pull a card for not following norms and/or rules. Card pulling is used to determine their behavior grade on the report card. • Rules and consequences are in the student handbook, and are posted in our classroom.

  5. Dress Code • Students are expected to follow the minimum dress code as described in your student handbook. • All staff members check for collars, closed toe shoes, and appropriate clothing. • Camouflage clothing, tank tops, and baseball caps, are not allowed. • Parents will be called to bring a change of clothing for students who do not comply with the school dress code.

  11. Homework • Homework packets are developed to cover a variety of common core standards both in math and language arts. The packets go home each Monday in a homework folder. • Homework is a review. Only concepts that have been taught will be sent as homework. • Students will begin writing simple sentences and progress through the year to developing paragraphs. • Homework packets are due on Friday morning.

  12. Reading Homework • Students will read 20 minutes each day outside of the classroom. Reading can be done with a variety of reading materials and can include being read to, reading together, or reading to someone else --- even a younger sibling, or pet! • Students will have access to a lot of reading materials. • Please record the title of the story every night. • An adult needs to sign the reading log by Friday morning.

  13. Writing • We will work on writing projects a few days per week in class. Your student will bring home a 2nd grade writing portfolio at the end of the year. We use the Step up to Writing program. • Journal writing helps to build writing fluency. We will journal write at least two mornings per week and there will occasionally be journal writing in the homework packet. • Your child will learn how to write an informative piece, an opinion piece, and a personal narrative.

  14. Field Trips • We hope to go to on a trip in late spring. Our parent club operates fundraisers that enable us to go on a field trip. Please help! Thank you. • We need chaperones. • The cost of fingerprints (to become a chaperone) is $65. You will be able to chaperone through 8th grade in our district.

  15. Parent Teacher Club • Our parent club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month to support the children of Cinnamon Elementary. • The PTC is a wonderful group and they work vigorously for your children. • They are always hopeful for new members. Everyone is welcome to attend!

  16. A Few More Items… • Lunch money may be sent in daily with your child, weekly to the office, or online at EZSchoolPay.com. • Please try your best to make any appointments for your child after school. • Please make sure your child knows where to go at the end of the day. Student pick-up in the back is far less crowded than in the front of the school.
