  1. Welcome to Technical Drafting • Come in • Tell me your Name • I will tell you a number, sit there • Get out a pencil and a notebook • place your backpack under the bench • While waiting, • find your student ID # and email address

  2. Sec 1 -- Industrial Tech Instructors: • Mr. Choquette • Mr. Weaver Mr. Choquette Basic Electronics, Computer Electronics Computer Construction Technical Drafting CAD DraftingArchitectural DraftingAdvance CAD Drafting Mr. Bliler Consumer Automotive, Automotive Systems, Power & Energy Mr. Weaver Construction Tech Woodworking, Technical Drafting

  3. Expectations: STUDENTS • Come ready to learn • No food and/or drinks in the classroom • No Electronics Personal Device use • No Misuse of the computers here in the classroom, no net surfing, emailing, etc. • The Instructor • Come in ready to teach right on time every day • no busy work; all lessons teach concepts for later life • no homework (unless you fall behind) • more hands-on building of circuits • using up-to-datetechnology to teach up-to-date electronics

  4. Remember Computer Usage Expectations The computers are configured for this class only • All personal or extra use is in not allowed no email, web surfing, game playing, text messaging, etc… • All extra setup or configuration is allowed backgrounds, fonts, links to non-class places. etc…)

  5. Sec 2 --This Lab uses CBT lessons • What is CBT ? • -- Computer Based Training -- In this Electronics Lab you will be using your computer more than ever before; the whole course is online in a system called an Intranet. For the most part, All educational setting have to do 3 things. They have to give you information, they have to provide time for you to practice and study the new information, and they have to test you to see if you have learned the material. A gym class and a math class might seem really different but they both still have to incorporate the 3 main categories shown above. A few examples are listed below.

  6. Examples of Traditional Curriculum Give out Information Practice and Study Assess Retention Whiteboard Handouts written Quizzes Textbook Independent practice project presentation Demonstrations Guided practice final activity Overhead projector Notebook labs Scantron Quizzes ???any others??? Science Class Art Class Social Studies Class

  7. In any of our online classes like this one, the computer will function in all three areas. • - Instead of a textbook, • all the information you need is in WebPages and PDF files (I’ll explain later)

  8. Instead of a notebook • you will keep your assignments in a intranet folder that only you have access to and as is becoming very popular you will work with simulation and analysis programs to gain experience working with the topics you are studying before you use really consumable parts.

  9. - Instead of taking paper & pencil or scantrons quizzes and tests where you have to wait over night or a few days to find out your score, • you will take online tests that will score the quiz immediately, give you feedback on how well you did and will enter your score directly into my “gradebook”.

  10. -Instead of a plastic tray at the front of the room to turn in your assignments, • There will be a folder on the intranet and you will just “copy & past” your assignment there. (have you ever lost an assignment or your teacher misplaced a quiz? Not here!!) • However, technology isn’t perfect yet other problems can occur (all of which will be the students error not the teachers) • Documents can be accidentally deleted or filed incorrectly (again, this will be student error)

  11. -Instead of glossing over a topic you didn’t fully understand, • This online curriculum will change depending on how well you do. For instance; • if you do poorly on a quiz a practice assignment will show up to give you some more experience with the topic or teach the topic in a different way.

  12. Sec 3 --Starting Your Computer • Your computer is under the table just to the side • Press the power button and wait for the Windows XP front screen • Don’t ever turn off the monitor • Sometimes the computer is only “asleep” • So before turning on the computer move the mouse a bit

  13. The Windows XP front screen will load and to go past this screen press the Control – Alternate – Delete • All at the same time and the Windows Login Screen will show. • At the Windows Login Screen enter your full last , your first initial, then your middle initial. then enter Dcsd(student ID) number as the password. Example User name : adamsonaa Password : Dcsd111222333

  14. After “Logging In” the computer will come to the “Desktop” The Desktop is the first window you come to and all your work is displayed here. There should be three and only three Shortcut Icons • Three and only three Shortcut Icons 1) goes to students folder 2) goes to your personal folder 3) goes to our class folder for hand-ins and hand-outs and an Internet explorer Icon • At the bottom of the screen is a Taskbar it includes several icons that are always accessible calculator, electronics programs, MS office, etc… • The background is always to stay the original Blue (no configuring of anything)

  15. SEC 4 – Windows Basics • What is a shortcut? • A shortcut is an icon (or picture) that, when selected, will send you to another place. The shortcut is not the document itself but a link to it. A shortcut looks different than the real document because it has a small arrow in the bottom corner. Many times shortcuts are found in the taskbar.

  16. What is a Taskbar? The bar at the bottom of the screen that contains a number of icons that will open necessary applications is called a One of the icons in the taskbar is available to start the PHS Technologies webpage. What icon do you select to start the class webpage? Taskbar

  17. A useful way to use the taskbar is to help you take notes in class. Each day open a word document and just keep it in the taskbar and whenever you hear something need to remember you select the icon in the taskbar and your Word document is there to type in. minimized

  18. Most WebPages are written in html scripting, including the PHS ITwebsite. A program called “Internet Explorer can read html and show you the pages. To start the Internet Explorer go to the taskbar and select the (e). Your explorer is set up to go directly to the ITwebsite.

  19. When you have two (or more) windows open on the desktop at the same time I will often refer to this as a Split_screen

  20. To turn in an assignment you go to the desktop, select the Basic Electronics shortcut, select your period Hand-In folder, select the correct assignment. Now right click and drag your document to the Hand-In folder. When you let go of the right mouse button a menu will show up. Select not or A copy of your assignment is now in the Hand-In folder for the instructor to grade. copy here move here create_shortcut

  21. Sec 5 --Basic Electronics Log-In The Ponderosa Industrial Technologies Site - should pop up automatically (if not select internet icon) - feel free to scroll down and look at any of our course while we wait for everyone to get to this point • To register for Basic Electronics - Select Student - Then select Basic Electronics A login screen will appear 

  22. Successful Registration IF all went well… you will see the * Successful * Registration Screen below Select the here button to return to frontpage Login to the Basic Electronics Course with your Username and StudentID

  23. Login Screen IF all went well… you will then see * Login Screen* below Login to the Basic Electronics Course with your Username and StudentID

  24. The Basic Electronics Frontpage • Finally, the Basic Electronics Frontpage will appear and you are ready to begin. • Any questions or problems?
