  1. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION Rom. 10:1-17 [By Ron Halbrook]

  2. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION • Introduction • Rom. 1:16-17 Theme of Romans: Salvation by Faith in Christ 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

  3. Message of salvation: gospel of Christ 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

  4. Saved by faith: not mental assent, but comprehensive, obedient faith (1:5; 16:26) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Rom. 1:5 5By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faithamong all nations, for his name:

  5. Saved by faith: not mental assent, but comprehensive, obedient faith (1:5; 16:26) Rom. 16:26 26But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith

  6. Sins forgiven: “Salvation” from sin “The righteousness of God:” right with God “Just:” one acquitted, pardoned, made right “Live:” spiritual life 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvationto every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of Godrevealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

  7. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION • Introduction 2. Simple Outline of Romans: • Chapt. 1-3 All men sin • Chap. 4-11 Salvation by faith in Christ, not by the works of the Law of Moses • Chapt. 12-16 Practical applications of the gospel in daily life 3. Chapter 10 focuses on God’s plan to make us right with Him— how sinners receive salvation

  8. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION I. Rom. 10:1-5 Paul Grieved for Jews Who Sought Salvation thru the Law of Moses 1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

  9. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION I. Rom. 10:1-5 Paul Grieved for Jews Who Sought Salvation thru the Law of Moses 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

  10. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION I. Rom. 10:1-5 Paul Grieved for Jews Who Sought Salvation thru the Law of Moses A. Ignorant of God’s Plan to Make Men Right with Himself B. Failed to See Moses’ Law Cannot Save But Points to the Need of a Savior

  11. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION II. Rom. 10:6-7 Do Not Seek for a Savior to Come— Christ the Savior Has Already Come! 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

  12. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION II. Rom. 10:6-7 Do Not Seek for a Savior to Come— Christ the Savior Has Already Come! A. Jews Still Seeking… B. Seeking Light from Muslim Imams, Buddhist Monks, Hermits in Himalayas C. Seeking Messages from the Dead, the Stars D. Searching Dreams, Mysticism, Emotions E. Experimenting with Drugs

  13. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION III. Rom. 10:8 The Message Is Simple So that All May Easily Understand, Be Saved, & Teach Others. 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

  14. IV. Rom. 10:9-10 Faith In & Confession of Christ Are Necessary for Salvation— to be Right with God. 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. A. Faith & Confession that Jesus Is Lord & Savior—not mere faith in faith

  15. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION V. Rom. 10:11-13 Jesus Is Lord & Savior for All Men Who Believe in Him. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  16. HOW SINNERS RECEIVE SALVATION VI. Rom. 10:13-17 God’s Plan for Saving Man Is Outlined Step by Step.

  17. VI. Rom. 10:13-17 God’s Plan for Saving Man Is Outlined Step by Step. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

  18. 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaiassaith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. VI. Rom. 10:13-17 God’s Plan for Saving Man Is Outlined Step by Step.
