  1. How Sinners Receive Salvation Romans 10:6-17

  2. How Sinners Receive Salvation • Romans 1:16,17 • Theme: Salvation by faith in Christ • Message of salvation:Gospel of Christ “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.’”

  3. How Sinners Receive Salvation • Romans 1:5 • Saved by faith: Not mental assent, but comprehensive, obedient faith. “Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name.”

  4. How Sinners Receive Salvation • Romans 16:26 • Saved by faith: Not mental assent, but comprehensive, obedient faith. “But now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith.”

  5. How Sinners Receive Salvation • Forgiveness synonyms: • “Salvation:” from sin • “The righteousness of God:” Right with God. • “Just:” One acquitted, pardoned, made right before God. • “Live:” Spiritually alive.

  6. How Sinners Receive Salvation • Simple Outline of Romans • Chapters 1-3: All men sin. • Chapters 4-11: Salvation by faith in Christ, not by the works of the Law of Moses. • Chapters 12-16: Practical applications of the gospel in our daily lives. • Chapter 10 focuses on God’s plan to make us right with Him—how sinners receive salvation.

  7. Paul Grieved for the Jews • Romans 10:1-5 • Paul grieved for the Jews who sought salvation through the Law of Moses. “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God…

  8. Paul Grieved for the Jews • Romans 10:1-5 • Paul grieved for the Jews who sought salvation through the Law of Moses. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, The man who does those things shall live by them.”

  9. Paul Grieved for the Jews • Romans 10:1-5 • Paul grieved for the Jews who sought salvation through the Law of Moses. • Ignorant of God’s plan to make men right with Himself, they made a plan of their own. • They failed to see the Law could not save but pointed to the need for a Savior.

  10. No Need to Seek a Savior Who Was Yet to Come “But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down from above) or, 'Who will descend into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” • Romans 10:6-7 • Do not seek for a savior to come. Christ the Savior has already come.

  11. Still Seeking? • Romans 10:6,7 • Do not seek for a Savior to come. Christ the Savior has already come! • Jews are still seeking and waiting… • Seeking lights from Muslim Imams, Buddhist monks, hermits in the Himalayas. • Seeking messages from the dead and stars. • Searching dreams, mysticism, emotions. • Experimenting with drugs.

  12. The Message Is Simple • Romans 10:8 • The message is simple so that all may easily understand, be saved, and teach others. “But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach).”

  13. Faith in and Confession of Christ • Romans 10:9,10 • Faith in and confession of Christ are necessary for salvation—to be right with God. • Faith and confession that Jesus is Lord and Savior—not mere faith in faith. “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

  14. How Sinners Receive Salvation • Romans 10:11-13 • Jesus is Lord and Savior of all men who will believe in Him. “For the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

  15. Step by Step • Romans 10:13-17 • God’s plan for saving man is outlined step by step. “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

  16. Step by Step • Romans 10:13-17 • God’s plan for saving man is outlined step by step. “And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our report?’ So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
