  1. Monday, September 24, 2012 Anchorage Public School Reading/Language/Writing Students will read for informational text using the story “How to Babysit an Orangutan.” Vocabulary from the story are: endangered, displeasure, smuggled, facial, jealous, and coordination. Students will take a test on Friday for comprehension of the story and its vocabulary. This week in language students will locate the subject and predicate in a sentence. Math In math this week will will have our first big unit test on Thursday & Friday.  At the beginning of the week we will be analyzing patterns to determine their rules.  We will also be generating number & shape patterns from a given rule.  Wednesday will be a review day.  Good luck on the test! Science Using the Engineer Design Process, students will take their knowledge from animal adaptations to create a protective covering for an animal. This is our first STEM challenge and you are sure to hear stories over the week from your children about this experience. Please note: students will take an open book and open note adaptation test this week. It is designed to teach students to look over their classwork and use it to answer the test questions. No extra studying from home is necessary for this test. Thank you. Social Studies This week in Social Studies we will explore the factors that cause differences in temperature and precipitation in Kentucky. Also, we will investigate average yearly temperatures and precipitation ranges in Kentucky. We have a unit test in Social Studies on Thursday.  Be sure to check Ms. Holt's web page for the study guide.  It will also be distributed completed in class on Wednesday.  Wednesday night's homework will be a take home written response from the unit test. September 28th 1st midterm ends October 1st-5th Fall Break October 8th-12th School at the Zoo October 12th Midterm reports NEWSLETTERMs. Campbell Ms. Holt Ms. Harper • Just a Reminder: • Field Experience at the Louisville Zoo- Field trip money is due by Friday, September 28th. We will load for the buses first thing Monday morning after fall break, so please be on time to school! Also, students will need to remember to pack the following each day in a small bag: • Lunch if bringing it from home • Disposable camera • Poncho/light jacket • Sunscreen • 2-3 pencils • Accelerated Reader- in the student’s weekly folder you will find a copy of your child’s AR report. Please remember by the end of the grading term, November 16th, students will need to have accumulated a minimum of 12 points. Please let me know if you have any questions.
