  1. Monday, September 16, 2013 Anchorage Public School Math Today students received their graded math quiz from Friday.  In class we worked on a self-assessment/reflection to help students determine why they missed the questions they did (if in fact they did miss any). Test corrections for the quiz are due by Wednesday.  This week in class we will be working with patterns:  identifying the rule and extending the pattern.  Tuesday we will be practicing an extended response question in preparation for the Unit Test on Thursday.  All students will be bringing home a model "4" example that they are encouraged to study for the test.  Wednesday is review day.  Thursday is the Unit Test. The test will include all material from the blue study guide: 25 multiple choice questions, two short answer questions, & one extended response question for a total of 33 points. For this first test, those students who do not finish on Thursday, will have an opportunity to finish up on Friday. Science Students have zeroed in on specific animal adaptations for getting food, protection/defense, and moving. This week students will use the engineer design process to solve a STEM challenge. Your child and a partner will create an adaptation in class for an animal. Then on Friday, we will place an egg in the adaptation and launch them from the classroom window to the parking lot. Students are trying to create an adaptation that will protect their egg from the fall. One reminder, any materials they would like to bring from home must be recycled. Please DO NOT go out and buy anything for this activity. Thank you. Social Studies This week in Social Studies students will learn about economic development, roads, and highway construction to keep up with the growth of the urban population centers. Also, we will study natural resources, land usage, climate and plant and animal life; and how they are all dependent on geography. Finally, we will see how the state has influenced its cultural, social, and economic past and present. Upcoming Dates: September 27th End of grading for midterm.
