  1. Monday, September 10, 2012 Anchorage Public School Reading/Language/Writing Students will read for informational text using the story “The Night of the Pufflings.” Vocabulary from this week’s story are uninhabited, burrows, stranded, venture, instinctively, nestles. Students will take a test on Friday for comprehension of the story and its vocabulary. This week in language students will recognize and write simple and compound sentences. Math Students will receive their graded quizzes from Friday today.  We will spend the class period self-assessing our strengths & areas of need in regard to the learning targets covered on the quiz.  We will be diving into addition & subtraction later in the week after the Iowa test is behind us.  We will start by sharing our schema (background knowledge) on the operations of addition and subtraction.  Science This week students will define adaptation and discover what adaptations animals have based on what they eat and where they live. Social Studies We will start the week by finishing our graphic organizer which describes the six different natural regions of Kentucky.  Then, we will talk about studying geography.  We will learn to describe where a certain place is located.  Students will learn the difference between relative and absolute location. Finally, we will explore longitude and latitude.  • Upcoming Dates: • September 11, 12, & 13. ITBS testing for 4h graders. • September 11th- Picture Day • September 11th- Playground dedication at 5:30. • September 11th- Open house from 6:00-7:00. • September 14th- Field trip permission slips due. • September 18th -High Attendance Day • September 27th -Pep Rally • September 28th -Field trip money is due. NEWSLETTERMs. Campbell Ms. Holt Ms. Harper Just a Reminder: Students will take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Students will test from approximately 8:00-10:30. Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reading will be tested. Field Experience at the Louisville Zoo- Information and permission slips will go home today in the weekly folder. Please read over the information carefully. Permission slips are due by Friday, September 14th and field trip money is due by Friday, September 28th. Spelling This week’s spelling and vocabulary words are from the red prefixes and suffixes workbook p. 12. Students will spell words with prefix –in. Test Friday!
