  1. FIRST DISTRICTNavigation Systems Assignments for 2014

  2. 2014“TOP”Priority The list of “Available PATONs” appears when you log-on as an Auxiliarist. This list is sorted by Patrol Area by PATON Name. “Verify” 1/3of the PATONs in each patrol area. These aids will be scheduled and will list when an AV logs onto the PATON System. PATONs list by Patrol Area by PATON name. This list also acts as your annual Status Report.

  3. 2014“2nd”Priority Photograph all PATONs without photos on record. If the PATON is scheduled for verification or is unscheduled with a discrepancy, submit the photo with your report. Otherwise, label the photo and e-mail it to FrankJLarkin@verizon.net.

  4. Use low pixel cameras or phone cameras. HD Photos often reject on the PATON System.

  5. 2014 “3rd” Priority Check all “unscheduled” PATONs Pre-check every aid’s documentation when listing it on your Patrol Area Worksheet. Check the aid’s position by observing it as you pass close aboard the aid using a chart plotter. Perform a visual check of the aid’s features. On regulatory buoys that can’t be safely reached, just do a sanity check of their position.

  6. Never submit a USCG AV PATON Report-7054for an “unscheduled” Private aid unless you have observed a documentation error or a discrepancy. NEVER This year, the Report Screener will reject your 7054 report back to you. So don’t do it!

  7. The “AVAILABLE PATON” List is your official PATON schedule and status report. When there are no more PATONs left on this list, you have completed your 2014 PATON verification assignments.

  8. AVs are responsible for the verification of all the ClassII and Class III PATONs. The Sector and CG ANT are responsible for the verification of all the ClassI PATONS.

  9. Also check every ATON in every patrol area in the District Follow the same process established for “Unscheduled” Private Aids. Always notify the CG ANT or STA when you observe a discrepancy on an ATON – Federal Aid. Never report ATONs found watching properly to the Coast Guard.

  10. Remember “You are not alone!” Keep the Auxiliary management aware of all problems that may deter your team from attaining their assigned goals. There are many resources available to assist you in planning, communicating, and executing.

  11. BRIDGES Survey all Class 1, 2 and 3 bridges. • If a bridge is not navigable from the sea, submit a Bridge Update Report to change the Class Code to Class 4. • We will not need to survey this bridge again. • Do not survey Class 4 Bridges unless specifically requested by the Coast Guard.

  12. Any questions about what the Coast Guard has assigned to be accomplished by the First District Aid Verifiers during 2014?
