ESOL Assessments • New Kindergarten English Language Proficiency Assessment will be administered during the month of September. • Elementary ESOL teachers will receive New Kindergarten English Language Proficiency Assessment training at the September 1st All-County In-Service.  Contact: Veda Johnson Return to Assessments

ESOL Assessments • VGLA Updates • ELP level 1, 2 and some ELP level 3 ESOL students in grades 3-8 continue to be eligible to participate in the Reading VGLA.  • ESOL lead teachers and department chairs will receive additional information during fall meetings.   21. Fine Arts Assessments • Art - The 6th grade Visual Art Assessment will be implemented countywide in 2010-2011. All elementary art teachers will be trained in the delivery, scoring, and reporting of the assessment during the school year.   22. Health and Physical Education Assessments • Physical education test items for grades 3 and 6 are located in eCART. Special Education Assessments • VAAP will include a writing component for grades 5, 8, and 11. • VGLA-IEP teams must continue rigorous scrutiny of multiple choice and alternate format work samples to justify use of VGLA. Work samples must be retained with IEP in student file. • VMAST will be field tested in 2010-2011 and available for mathematics grades 3-8 and Algebra 1 in 2011-2012.  •  All assessments will incorporate 2008 Social Studies standards.      Information and Training Opportunities Contact: Mary Ann Panarelli Return to Assessments

  24. World Languages Assessments • Common Assessments in German, French, Spanish and Latin: Level 1 assessments were administered in June 2010. Level 2 assessments were field tested in June 2010 and revised. Levels 1 and 2 will be ready to administer in June 2011. • The Jr. PALS performance assessments will be administered to all immersion students in grades 3 and 6. Jr. PALS will not be administered in grades 2 and 4 this year. The FLES Jr. PALS field tests will continue in grades 3 and 6. Contact: Paula Patrick Return to Assessments

  25. Fine Arts Curriculum Revisions • Elementary Art Program of Studies is located in eCART. The new curriculum emphasizes planning art works before beginning production, making artworks about big ideas, and reflecting on artmaking as part of every lesson. • In 2010-2011 PLC training will continue to assist teachers in implementing the new curriculum and delivery model. • Contact: Tamra Ferreira Return to Curriculum Revisions

Mathematics Curriculum Revisions • The newly adopted 2009 Standards of Learning (SOL) will be incorporated into a revised FCPS Program of Studies (POS). • Addendums to the pacing guide outline and changes and additions to the FCPS Mathematics POS will be made available through out the year.   32. Social StudiesCurriculum Revisions • The 2008 Standards of Learning and Curriculum Frameworks for social studies will be fully implemented and tested for the 2010-2011 school year. Teachers should replace curriculum documents with those located in eCART. • Grade 2 and Grade 3 teachers will continue to teach the FCPS sequence as noted in the POS located in eCART.   34. Special Education Dates and Deadlines • All teachers serving Special Education students have electronic access to IEPs via GET-IEP. All teachers serving Special Education students are required to review IEPs before the first day of school. • School administrators have access to reports in GET-IEP that show which IEPs have been viewed, when they were viewed and by whom. Student Safety and Wellness Office Dates and Deadlines • The 2010 SR&R materials were delivered to all schools before July 30th. • The SR&R/SASI and the Attendance/SASI classes are sponsored by the Student Safety and Wellness Office during the year for School Administrators and SASI Operators. • Register for the courses in MyPLT by searching for SSAW. Advanced Academics Resources • Level One K-6 Critical and Creative Thinking Lessons have been revised and written in the LEARN model with the following additions: ELL accommodations, assessment ideas, picture books, and SMART Board lessons. • Level IV Advanced Academic curriculum and resources will be available in eCART. Science Resources • Schools are encouraged to purchase science trade books that are approved for the 2010-2011 school year. • The K-12 list of trade books is posted in the Elementary Gateways/Science/Curriculum Resources/FCPS Documents.   45. Social Studies Resources • New resources aligned to the revised POS are located in eCART. • Schools are encouraged to purchase newly adopted books for social studies. The priority for purchasing is as follows: • Grade 4 due to numerous changes to this content. • Primary (K-3) Big Books and trade books which support literacy and content integration with language arts. • Grade 5 selected trade books complement the current textbook. • Grade 6 textbook is aligned with new SOLs. Special Education Resources • New FCPS Restraint and Seclusion Guidelines impact all school-district employees who manage students with challenging behaviors. • Guidelines are currently in the approval process and will be distributed during Fall 2010. • Training will be available for administrators. Special Education Resources • Office of Special Education Procedural Support Services (OSEPS) has updated the Procedures Required for Implementation of Special Education Regulations in Virginia’s Public Schools Manual used by LSC, Eligibility, and IEP teams. • A new Special Education Operations Manual will be available by mid-to-late fall 2010.   50. Administrator Professional Development Opportunity • Administrators have an opportunity to attend the Kagan Cooperative Meetings 2-day workshop on Thursday, October 14 and Friday, October 15.
