Current Perspectives in Age Related Macular Degeneration

Terminology. Degeneration is the change of a tissue to a less functionally active form. Until recently the syndrome was referred to as Senile Macular Degeneration, a name given to the condition by Haab as early as 1885, the terminological change reflecting contemporary sensibility regarding diseases in ageing populations. Age related macular degeneration has recently been comprehensively morphologically classified by Professor AC Bird and his co-workers who formed the International ARM Epid9445
