Then we will be moving on to statehood and the Texas’s role in the Civil War. Reading: Math: We are ending our unit on poetry and have enjoyed studying lyrical and free verse poems. In our next unit we will be making connections between texts. In this unit we will identify similarities and differences between characters and events in fiction and nonfiction. Remember to check Edmodo weekly to respond to the weekly reading prompts. We begin by developing a deeper understanding of Perimeter and Area before Spring Break. After Spring Break, we will focus on Measurement primarily the customary and metric units. ! Writing: Science: The STAAR Writing Test is fast approaching (April 1 and 2). We have been spending some of our class time going back over expository and narrative writing. Students will also be returning to previously written drafts to practice making revisions. We will also review editing rules and spelling patterns. In Science we will focus on slow changes to the Earth’s surface. We will explore weathering, erosion and deposition. We will assign another flipped lesson on these concepts and take part in a lab to experience erosion. Technology Corner: Students are busy working on creating QR codes to showcase poems they have been writing the last few weeks. We have also been using our mini-iPads and laptops to research different topics and publish various pieces. A Few Reminders: The month of March is a busy one! (Book Fair, Open House, Silent Auction, etc) Please make sure you are checking your child’s Tuesday Folder every week for important information that may be coming home! Please remember to sign/initial the Communication Calendar located in your child’s Take Home Folder every Tuesday. If your child has had any problems with behavior in class, it will be noted on the Communication Calendar. As the weather starts to warm up, please remember to send your child to school with a water bottle. It really helps cuts down on missed class time!
