This report outlines the progress of the 4-Station Prototype for cosmic ray testing, software development, and calibration conducted at Fermilab and KEK. The new station features a revised design for improved optical connection and is integrated into a tracker system. Key components include AFEII prototype boards tested at Fermilab, data acquisition methods with UniDAQ, and the application of G4MICE in analysis. Plans for upcoming installations and tests are also included, highlighting the collaboration of experts in the field.

Tracker Status Report • 4 Station Prototype • Software • AFEII work at Fermilab • Calibration and cosmic ray test at Fermilab • Setup at KEK • Plans M. Ellis 14th September 2005
4 Station Prototype • New station built to revised design: • 427 mm fibre pitch • Improved optical connectors • Internal waveguide for patch panel • Original three stations and new station assembled into a new tracker at Imperial. • CMM measurements made of station position before tracker was made light-tight and shipped to Fermilab. M. Ellis 14th September 2005
Software • DAQ • UniDAQ used for KEK test. ADCs and TDCs read out in the same manner as for the May test. • Code to read out VLSB modules originally developed as a standalone application, now being imported into UniDAQ • Analysis • G4MICE being used for all analysis • Preparation of monitoring application underway. • More detail in talks at Tracker/DAQ and software meetings. M. Ellis 14th September 2005
AFEII Work • AFEII prototype boards have been developed and tested at Fermilab. • Improved design beyond AFEI (currently used by D0) and a step along the path towards AFEII-t. • Successfully operated four AFE boards (2048 channels) in a MICE cryostat at D0 performing calibrations and recording cosmic ray events from the tracker. M. Ellis 14th September 2005
Fermilab Setup M. Ellis 14th September 2005
Calibration and Cosmic Rays • Calibration performed using an LED. • Can control duration of pulse and intensity to produce a sample with pedestal and one and two PE peaks or increase light to look at many PE. • After calibration, the tracker was connected to the VLPC cassettes and 3606 cosmic ray triggers were recorded. • This data is still being analysed. M. Ellis 14th September 2005
VLPC/AFE Performance Reconstructed with G4MICE M. Ellis 14th September 2005
Setup at KEK • Cryostat, Tracker, etc have been shipped to KEK and setup there. • Cryostat/Cryocooler is performing well. • Avnet board has failed and is being returned to Fermilab for repairs. We have two spares, so this will not cause any problem. • Spare AFEII boards and other equipment will be sent to KEK with D0 experts. M. Ellis 14th September 2005
Plans • 21st September • Place BESS magnet in area • Tracker/VLPC system installed • 27th September • Accelerator tuning • D0 experts arrive and complete testing and setup of VLPC system • 30th September • Planned start of good beam. • May be delayed by 3 or 4 days. • We have 20 shifts (8 hours each) from the start of good beam.
