Creekside HistoryRooted in environmental justice • Established in 1992 by residents as a volunteer organization • Halted dumping of raw sewage into Fox Creek and the Detroit River. • Maheras-Gentry Park historic designation • Partnered with Greening of Detroit to plant over 500 trees • Conner Creek Greenway Partner • Southeastern Detroit Recycle Here! site

Creekside ProjectsA foundation of community • Planted tree farm and community garden with the Greening of Detroit • Led the Guyton Gateway blight removal project • Leads neighborhood-wide campaign to remove dangerous buildings • Help residents form block clubs • Host numerous educational workshops

  5. Creekside Housing Projects • Splash of Hope, a project to paint low-income senior homes.

  6. Creekside Housing Projects • Partnered with Habitat for Humanity in 2001 to build 25 homes.

  7. Creekside Homes • Partnered with the NRP Group in 2004 to build 45 unit low-income tax credit rental homes.

Encouraging Investment • Distributed over $400,000 in minor home repair grants to community residents • Will leverage over $430,000 in home repair funds for 2009 alone. • In 2008, hosted an investor’s forum with ShoreBank. • Creekside marketed its unique neighborhood • Encouraged reuse of vacant properties • ShoreBank marketed its unique home rehab loan product

Community Collaborations • Creekside newsletter – directly mailed to over 5000 households since 1993 • Advertises JEBA and Creekside events • Discussion of combining both newsletters next year • Community Walk with JEBA & CDC info • ShoreBank donated bags • Summer festivals • ShoreBank helped sponsor Creekside’s 2007 summer festival • Neighborhood CB patrol – work in progress
