  2. Meet the EUP Game! (Eastern Upper Peninsula) Rules: Make a guess for each question. The person guessing the closest (under or over) to the correct answer wins candy.

  3. Question 1 How many square miles does our region cover (or how many square miles does our ISD serve)?

  5. Question 2 Barb lives in Sault Ste. Marie. How far does she have to drive to get to Olive Garden, one of her favorite restaurants?

  9. Question 4 – time for a little math Michelle is our ISD General Education Director, so she drives all over Michigan. According to Google Maps, during which trip would Michelle spend more time in the car (assuming no stops, good driving conditions, and no construction) – Whitefish Point to DeTour or St. Ignace to Lansing AND how much more time?

  10. Answer: Whitefish Point to DeTour = 3 hours 43 minutes St. Ignace to Lansing = 3 hours 37 minutes therefore… Michelle spends 6 more minutes driving from Whitefish Point to DeTour.

  11. Question 5 What percent of St. Ignace students are Native American?

  12. Answer: 61% St. Ignace has the highest percentage of Native Americans in the state.

  13. Question 6 Kristina’s kids want to go to the beach to swim in a Great Lake. They live in Sault Ste. Marie. How many Great Lakes could they swim in during a normal single day and still get in naptime?

  14. Answer: 3 You could swim in Lakes Superior, Huron, and Michigan all in one day easily.

  15. Question 7 What percent of the Upper Peninsula is forest land owned by the federal government, the state, and private forest industry combined?

  16. Answer: 60.3% 20.1% of the UP is forest land owned by the federal government. 19.5% of the UP is forest land owned by the state. 20.7% of the UP is forest land owned by the commercial forest industry, which is 97% of all of the commercially owned forest land in Michigan.

  25. Question 12 How many times a year do EUPISD curriculum review teams meet to work on curriculum (total days for all curriculum teams combined)? There are representatives from various districts on each team.

  26. Answer: 40 days 10 days per year times 4 teams (social studies, math, science, and ELA)

Realities of 21st Century Education: • Accountability • Data collection – DIBELS, MEAP, MME, PLAN, ASVAB, SAT, ACT, etc., etc., etc. • Technology – allows for access by more people and analysis tools and present data in more user friendly ways • Students deserve our very best including instruction correlated to their academic level
