  1. Key Sections for your Lab Report • Title: Describe Specifically what you are investigating • Intro/Background: (see next slide for details) • Research Question: Focused, Clear question • Hypothesis : A predictive statement • ID Experimental Variables: Independent & Dependent • Variables that need to be Controlled • Materials : List of specific items used (diagram & visual of set up) • Procedure & Methods (Design): Explain the steps taken from making your solutions to running the experiment. Outline your design & Provide details of how you will control errors. Be sure to include how you plan to collect & analyze the data. Explain how you will you account for the differences of each cut sample of tissue? • Data Processing/Analysis: tables charts & graphs have ready • Be sure to include Units & Uncertainty • Conclusion: Accept or reject your hypothesis? Why? • Evaluation: Changes to procedure & Improvements

  2. Key Sections for your Lab Report (cont’d) • Title: Specific & concise. Be sure to include Genus & species names • Introduction/Background: • Give a purpose/significance behind your experiment • Inform the reader of the key concepts related to your investigation • Give some information about the tissues you chose to Test. • Why did you chose these tissues? How are they different? What do we know about these tissues? • Lead into your Research Question. • Materials & Procedure: Review and make sure it is complete • Conclusion: • Do your accept or reject your Hypothesis? • Explain your reasoning supporting it with the data you obtained. • Provide specific aspects of your data that allowed you to come to this conclusion. • Evaluation: • What were your specific sources of error? • What can you do to lower or eliminate these errors? • Evaluate your procedure. What would you differently to improve your procedure? • Give some realistic improvements you would do.

  3. Analysis of the Data Collected • Mass Difference: Final – initial (absolute diff.) • % Change in Mass: Final – initial x 100 initial **Why do we use the % change in mass instead of simply the straight difference? • Plot your data on the graph. • Determine the molar solute concentration of the potato cores. How??? ***Where your line crosses the “0” mark
