  2. Definitions: • Self – Esteem – Our own description of how we see ourselvs. • Positive Self-Esteem – Liking ones self; feeling good about who we are. • Negative Self-Esteem – Not liking our self; feeling bad about who we are.

  3. Persons wit a Negative Self-Esteem usually … • Are oversensitive to criticism • Are over presponsive to compliments • Have a tendency to blame others • Have a feeling of being picked on

  4. Con’t … • Handle competition poorly • Are over competitive or refuse to compete • Feel socially left out • Are uncertain of their values and priorities

  5. People with a high self-esteem usually … • Have clear values and principles which are followed • Can make decisions, accept consequences and learn form their mistakes • Enjoys the present without undue worry

  6. Con’t … • Have confidence in their ability to deal with problems • Feels accepted by others • Can give and accept a wide range of activities • Is flexible to the needs of others • Feels equal to others not superior or inferior

  7. Results of a person with Positive Self-Esteem • Achieve higher grades and are more successful in school and life • Are less likely to drop out of school • Are less prejudice • Can work with others more successfully

  8. Con’t • Are more flexible and able to try new things • Have a clear sense of values and priorities • Have fewer health problems • Are less likely to have abusive behaviors

  9. Con’t … • Are less likely to give into peer pressure • Can act on their own best judgment and make good, clear decisions • can accept consequences from their own actions and learn from their mistakes

  10. Activity … • Compete the questions on your think-sheet about yourself. Be honest and open minded.
