HSC Credential To be successful in your HSC course, you must: • Follow the course developed or endorsed by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) • Apply yourself with diligence and sustained effort to the set tasks and experiences provided in the course • Achieve some or all of the course outcomes • Make a genuine effort at assessment tasks • Complete the mandatory work placement component Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

Note: • The rules and structure of NESA HSC VET courses vary from the AQF qualification packaging rules. • More units of competency may be required to meet NESA requirements, than are required to achieve the qualification. Course Costs • You may have to pay for: • Uniforms and personal protective equipment (PPE) • Materials used in your training • Some or all of the course costs for a General Construction Induction Training (White-Card) • The costs of work placement travel and/or accommodation Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

Fees and Refund Policy • Fees - you may be required to pay your fees to your school, which is a delivery site for the RTO Tamworth 90162. • Refunds - students who withdraw from the course during the year may be entitled to a pro-rata (proportional) refund of their course fee. Competency Based Assessment • You will be deemed either Competent or Not Yet Competent • Competency Achievement leads to an AQFqualification • This means you must perform a task to industry standard • Your teacher will provide you with a range of tasks for you to demonstrate your competence against set performance criteria. • You will be advised when and how you will be assessed. • Tasks may include practical and/or written work, and gathering of evidence for an e-Portfolio • A copy of all your completed assessment evidence will be retained by the school Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer If you have: • Previous work or life experiences • Completed all or part of a similar course with TAFE or another RTO • You need to: • Provide evidence eg certificate/competency record • Apply to your teacher who will assess your skills to ensure they meet industry standards You may qualify for RPL or Credit Transfer for units of competency and/or for compulsory work placement Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

  16. Examinations The HSC examination is optional for VET students… …BUT if you wish to obtain an ATAR, you MUST DO THE HSC EXAM. You may be required to complete examinations throughout the course. Unique Student Identifier (USI) • All VET students must have a 10 digit USI reference number to enrol and receive VET transcripts • Your USI number will create a secure online record of all your future training and qualifications with registered RTOs • Keep your USI secure - it stays with you for life Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

Results and Records • Results from assessments are recorded by your teacher and entered in the electronic system called NESA Schools Online • Records of your progress are available from your teacher • Students can access completed competencies and transcripts after course completion at the USI website https://www.usi.gov.au/students/training-records-and-transcript Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

  19. NESA Record of School Achievement (RoSA) • VET courses will be listed on your RoSA • The relevant AQF qualification will be listed – e.g. ‘Certificate’ or ‘Statement of Attainment’ • No mark will be listed (unless students undertake the written HSC examination) Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

  20. Work Placement • Compulsory for most VET students in NSW • If you do not complete work placement you will not have the HSC units recognised by NESA. This may mean that you will not receive your preliminary or HSC. • Usually 70 hours – 35 hours Preliminary and 35 hours HSC course for a 2 unit course • Usually organised by a work placement service provider • Students must NOT be paid as DoE insurance cover will be invalid for a student who accepts payment. • May lead to employment • Your teacher will deem you ‘work ready’ before you can participate in work placement Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction

  22. Complaints and Appeals Complaints-If you are unsatisfied with any part of your course, you are encouraged to resolve the complaint through your usual school processes. Appeals – If you would like to question an assessment decision, follow the school process starting with a discussion with your teacher.   23. What to do if you have a complaint or an appeal • First discuss this with your teacher • If still not satisfied… discuss it with your Head Teacher and/or VET Coordinator • If still not satisfied… discuss it with the school principal • If still not satisfied…ask to speak to your school’s Senior Pathways Officer Public Schools NSW – Tamworth RTO 90162 2019 Induction
