  1. Unicef’s quest to a fairer world Made by: Janne Roovers

  2. Who they are? • UNICEF was setup by the UN in 1946 on 11 December to give food and healthcare to children affected by WW2. Its name comes from United Nations International Children Emergency Fund. It is mostly funded by international governments and donations from individuals.

  3. ??????????How do they help?????????? • UNICEF provides child immunizations and vaccines to more than half of the world's children. • UNICEF provides families with clean drinking water and sanitation, helping nearly 1.8 billion people gain access to safe drinking water.  • UNICEF helps protects children against malaria ; in 2008 we distributed more than 19 million anti-malaria bed nets. • UNICEF provides nourishment to prevent malnutrition; in many famine-ravaged countries we are the main provider of ready-to-eat therapeutic foods that can bring children back from the brink of starvation. • UNICEF participates in the fight AIDs by caring for children affected by AIDS and ensuring that infected pregnant women get the drugs they need to prevent transmission of the virus to their babies. • UNICEF works to protect children from abuse, aiming to stop child exploitation and trafficking • UNICEF strives to provide access to a quality education for children .

  4. Current affairs • Unicef is currently working on their Tap Water project in 100 different countries. Since 1990 they have already given access to clean water and sanitation for 2 billion people in LEDC’s. • Unicef is also working with Syrian refugees. They are providing basic needs like water, food and sanitation. They also built refugee camps that provide blankets, clothes and sleeping mats for the children in the sub zero temperatures.

  5. Child trafficking • Unicef is working on their ZERO campaign which includes many projects one being to stop child trafficking. They are doing this all over the world in 150 countries including America. They help by protecting the children against violence and abuse. They do this by helping governments strengthen child protection, ensure that victims are placed in safe environments. Train social workers to spot signs of trafficking and work with communities and faith-based organizations to change harmful societies. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wVz_PbZyLa8

  6. How effective are they?? • I think UNICEF I good at what they do. They help more than 200 countries with their problems and are good at emergency care ( that’s what they were set up to do). On a scale of 1-10 id give them an 7.5. • They have only a few limitations one being that it is mainly run by volunteers and that it onlt has a small aount of members compared to how many countries it helps. It also mainly aims at aid for children.
