  1.  Happy THURSDAY! Bellwork:Please complete the following task:1. Did you turn in your half sheet with parent signature?2. Did you pay your lab fees?3. Have you finished numbering and decorating your I.A.N.?4. Did you finish Cornell Notes over the Syllabus?No? Well………let’s finish it now then. 

  3. Standard: Demonstrate safe practices during laboratory and field practices.Essential Question: How can I stay safe during labs?

  4. CHAMPs: Lab

Lab CHAMP • C – Talking only to your group • H– Ask 3 then me • A – Complete all questions & activities; GOGGLES must be worn for all labs!! • M – Stay with your group – one member may move around for materials or help • P – All members actively participating; Safety rules followed at ALL TIMES!!

  7. Lab Safety Rules: • Dress for lab • Pull back longhair. • Wear closed-toe shoes during a lab. • If you wear contacts, it is best to wear glasses in the lab. If you wear contacts, be sure to tell your teacher. • Personal protective equipment • Always wear your lab safety goggles and lab apron when in the lab. • Chemical safety • Do not directly sniff any substance in a lab. Always waft!

Lab Safety Rules: • Lab safety equipment • Lab behavior • Never touch lab equipment without a teacher’s permission. • Do not touch/turn on water or gas faucets without a teacher’s permission. • Never eat or put lab materials in your mouth. • Do not chew gum in the lab. • Follow directions exactly as they are given. • If you have a question on a lab procedure, ask before going on. • If there is an emergency or something is spilled or glass is broken, tell your teacher immediately

  9. Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan • Follow the route your teacher describes. • Gather at your assigned area when outside. Look for your teacher, holding up a sign with his/her room number. • Remain with your teacher until told to go inside (attendance will be taken). • When we return to the building, go directly back to class.

  10. SAFETY CONTRACT I need a signed Safety Contract from you and your parent/guardian in order for you to participate in lab.

  11. WHAT IS HAPPENING?! • With your partner, look at the picture of the lab. • Find as many things wrong with it as possible. • When you have done that, make a lab safety rule poster to correct one of the “wrongs.”
