  2. Concept of Operations • Utilize one MPF ship to produce and deliver sea-based potable water from ship to shore via containers to undeveloped beach and port locations locations with personnel already in theater.

  3. Advantages • MPF Ship not limited to an established port as we now can deliver water to wherever it is needed. • MPF Ship can offload water to multiple beaches per day. • Water offloaded via lighterage in portable containers (up to 2000 liters) utilizing forklift. • 1000L container are ideal • Containers can be replenished when ship returns to that location.

  4. Specifications • Each MPF ship is capable of storing approx 304K L (80K gals) of potable water • Each ship is capable of making 76K liters (20K gals) of water per day • Powered barge (CSP and CIN) can transport 1 forklift in addition to 68K L (18.5K gals) in containers or 117K L (31K gals) without forklift • One LCM8 can deliver 30K L per trip • In summary we can put 147 containers (1000L) of potable water on the beach in a single trip

  5. Manning Requirements Can complete mission with personnel already on the ground • Cargo Handlers/Crane Operators (NCHB-1) • 16 personnel in country • Barge ferry operators (ACB-1) • 29 personnel in country • LCM-8 operators (ACU-1) • 8 personnel in country • Beach Masters (BMU-1) • 17 personnel in theater (5 in country, 12 in theater)

  6. Concerns • The MV PLESS is the preferred ship as it allows the quickest offload/backload of lighter with personnel currently in theater. • However, requires permission to open hatches if additional equipment is required • Survey (SLRP) of each location is desired • Availability of 500 gallon containers. • Prices per container from 1 source vendor: • 700 L (165gal) US$76 each • 1000 L (264 gal) US$92 each • 1850 L (437 gal) US$142 each • 2000L (528gal) US$165 each
