RABI PROSPECTS • Prospects of Rabi crops are generally satisfactory • State is targeting to increase spring rice/boro paddy with irrigation facility. • Increased productivity is also aimed by adoption of improved packages of practices. • State is making an effort to increase in area under hybrids.

  5. CROP-WISE AREA AND PRODUCTION TARGETS AND LIKELY ACHIEVEMENTS DURING KHARIF -2011.

  6. CROP PRODUCTION PROSPECTS DURING RABI 2011-2012 • The estimated area and production of foodgrains during Rabi 2011-2012 are fixed at 43173 ha. and 79870 tonnes, respectively.

  7. Pulses: The target area of Pulses for Rabi 2011-2012 has been fixed at3520 ha. Whereas Production would be at 3500 tonnes.

  8. STRATEGY FOR RABI PRODUCTION • Proper land preparation through optimum tillage operations • Use of Certified seeds of recommended varieties • Timely sowing and transplanting of crops • Adequate field management and inter cultural practices • Application of recommended dose of fertilizers at the critical stages of crop growth.

  9. Consumption of fertilizers during 2010-11 and 2011-12 in the State.(in Metric Tonnes)

  10. Seed situation Rabi 2011-12 & Kharif 2011 • Requirement of certified seeds during Rabi 2011-12 was 5750 Qtls. And that of Kharif 2011 was 10616 • The quantity of certified seed distributed during 2010-11 is 5430 Qtls while the requirement for Rabi 2011-2012 is 5750 Qtls.

PLANT PROTECTION & IPM • Insecticides Act 1968 for maintaining good quality of pesticides not done strictly as selling of spurious pesticides by dealers is bare minimal • For quality analysis, the only SPTL needs improvement for functioning • The State emphasizes adoption of eco-friendly plant protection approach through IPM with setting up of FFS and improving ITK
