  1. MISSION Girls for Gender Equity is committed to the physical, psychological, social and economic development of girls and women. Through education, organizing and physical fitness, Girls for Gender Equity encourages communities to remove barriers and create opportunities for girls and women to live self-determined lives. COALITION FOR GENDER EQUITY IN SCHOOLS The purpose of the Coalition for Gender Equity in Schools (CGES)is to make NYC schools safer for all students and free of sexual harassment using an intersectional analysis of its causes • Role: • Education • Policy Advocacy Coalition Framework: • Prioritize youth leadership • Incorporate parents’ and teachers’ voices • Community organizing • Intersection of issues

  7. COALITION GOALS • Objective 1 – Educate school community and provide tools. • Objective 2 – Develop youth leadership. • Objective 3 – Advocacy and community organizing. • Objective 4 – Develop the CGES model as a replicable strategy.

  8. SUCCESSES • Create spaces to dialogue about sexual harassment. • Broaden the lens of youth experiences in NYC schools. • Debunk the myth that men or LGBTQ folks are not affected. • Insert our analysis into other movements for social change in NYC.

CHALLENGES • Getting the stakeholders/those most affected to the table. • Establishing reciprocal and mutually beneficial relationships with members. • Aligning each other’s work and creating a movement out of it. • Showing that sexual harassment is still a priority issue. • Prioritizing youth leadership in an intergenerational setting. • Having time for reflection and evaluation.
