  1. How to Cite Properly(and avoid plagiarism!) At Eton we use the MLA style of citing. Everything you need to know about the MLA style can be found on this website: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/

  2. How does MLA citing work? TWO PARTS: 1) In-text Citation 2) Works Cited Page

  3. In-text citations When you use another person’s idea or words, you cite right there what your source is! Ex: Having a dealine is important for the creative process (Baty 28). We know that the idea is from an author named Baty from page 28.

  4. So… If the idea or words are from a print source (on paper), write: (Author’s Last Name Page Number) Ex: (Gaiman 114) If the ideas or words are from an Internet source, write: (Author’s Last Name, “Title”) Ex: (Fisman, “Weather and War”) If there’s more than one author, list all their last names with a comma between. Ex: (O’Meara, Hayward 154)

  5. ***If you use the author’s name in the sentence, you don’t have to repeat it in the citation.***Ex:O’Meara and Hayward say that the Bulldog is a friendly and loyal pet (171).

  6. Where do you put more information about your sources? At the end of your paper, in the Works Cited page.

  7. How to make a Works Cited Page List ALL the sources you cite in your paper. Double-space your writing. Put the sources in alphabetical order, by author’s last name. Follow the following format…

  8. For books: Last name, First name. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication. Medium of Publication. Ex: Gaiman, Neil. American Gods. New York: Harper Perennial, 2001. Print.

  9. For magazines and newspapers: Last name, first name. "Title of Article." Title of Periodical Day Month Year: pages. Medium of publication. Ex: Deem, Megan. “Ten New Style Statements.” In Style August 2011: 224-231. Print.

  10. For webpage: Last name, First name. ”Title of Webpage." Website. Organization or publisher, date of creation. Medium of publication. Date of access. Ex: MacManus, Richard. “Top 10 YouTube Videos of All Time.” readwriteweb.com. Read Write Web, 5 August 2011. Web. 24 August 2011. *If there’s no publisher, write n.p. instead. If there’s no date of creation, write n.d. instead.

  11. If there’s two or more authors, list them like this:Last Name, First Name and First Name Last Name.Ex:O’Meara, Sean and Michael Hayward. …
