  2. Compound Microscopes • Instrument fitted with objective and eyepiece lenses and used for viewing small objects. • Use two sets of lenses to produce magnified image (eyepiece and objective) • Creates two-dimensional image (length and width)

  3. Parts of the Microscope

  4. Eyepiece • Contains the ocular lens • Closest to your eye • Magnifies the image produced by the objective lens (10x)

  5. Adjustments • Coarse Adjustment: the control used to move the objective lens or stage up and down during initial focusing on a specimen. • Fine Adjustment: the control used to bring the specimen into sharp focus by moving the objective stage up and down in very small increments.

  6. Revolving Nosepiece • The rotating device that holds the objective lenses. OBJECTIVES: Lens closest to specimen • High Power Objective: Lens with greater magnification (43x, 40x) • Low Power Objective: Lens with lower magnification ability (10x)

  7. Stage Supports the slide being viewed

  8. Transporting MicroscopesOne hand on arm and one hand on base.

  9. SlidesRest on stage or platform and are held in place by stage clips Creating a slide

  10. Field of View • The area visible through the microscope.

  11. Total Magnification Eyepiece x Objective Lens=Total Magnification (10x) x (40x) = 400x (10x) x (10x) = 100x
