  4. There are 3 types of verb in Spanish -AR -AR e.g. hablar -ER -ER e.g. leer -IR -IR e.g. vivir

  5. When the verb has the –AR, -ER, -IR ending it is called the INFINITIVE. The infinitive means TO …… Hablar= to speak Leer = to read Vivir= to live

  6. What is the INFINITIVE?

  7. Find the following verbs in Spanish in the dictionary. Is each verb –AR, -ER or –IR? • to invite • to introduce • to prefer • to reduce • to break • to dress • invitar • presentar • preferir • reducir • romper • vestir

  8. The STEM of the verb

  9. When the verb has the –AR, -ER, -IR ending it is called the INFINITIVE. When you remove the –AR, -ER, -IR it becomes THE STEM. Hablar= habl_ Leer = le_ Vivir= viv_

  10. What is the imperfect tense? The imperfect tense describes what someone WAS doing or what you USED to do. Examples: I was playing football OR I used to play football
