  6. Unit Studies – Social Studies Based on the new social studies standards students will rotate through Economics and Government -- Nelson Science (Structures of Life) Connolly Ancient World History and Geography -- Drinane

  7. An Island Lake 3rd Grade Tradition Continues Students choose an animal to research Students conduct research and write several chapters complete with pictures and references. They put it all together into a book. Most of this work is completed in class. They share their books in May at an open house. YOU ARE INVITED May 22

  12. Snack Please send a small, neat, and healthy snack each day. Thank you for your generous contributions! Students may bring a water bottle from home. No Peanut Products Other Activities and Responsibilities -Homeroom

  13. Planners Students are responsible for recording homework assignments. Look for “Peek of the Week.” Please check the pockets of the 3 ring binder (return to school and keep at home). Please sign your child’s planner daily. Dismissal Please write a note if there is a change. Working Together

  20. Materials • Everyday Mathematics Homework • most days • practice basic facts • ixl Expectations for 3rd graders • 60 addition/subtraction problems in 3 minutes

  21. Whole Group Houghton Mifflin Skills Tests Story Tests Some writing done at this time as well. Reading Log Small Group Reading Grouped for optimal growth. “Daily 5” components including: independent reading and partner reading. Comprehension strategies Word Study (spelling) done at this time.
