  1. Good Advice Speech What’s the best advice you’ve gotten?

  2. Journal… • Make a list of good advice that you’ve heard (or has been given to you). • On friendship, relationships • School, learning, success, career • On hobbies, fun, sports • On religion, spirituality, morality • On silly things • On safety • On life or the world

Journal… • List people who have given you good advice in your life…and the specific advice if you remember it. • List events where good advice is given… • Find a quote on my walls that you think is good advice and write why… • Get into groups of 3 or 4 and talk about the good advice you’ve been given in life.

Goals for this speech • To share a true and personal experience and piece of advice that you have received from someone or something. • Tell the audience about this advice using a catchy intro, vivid sensory description, vocal variety, eye contact, transitions, and a catchy conclusion. • Develop a purpose statement for this speech based off a specific audience • Write the speech with a specific event and audience in mind

  5. Requirements • This speech needs to be between 2.5 to 4min. • You will write an outline for this speech (we will start on that next class). Turning in the outline is required, but you may also write a full manuscript if it helps you perform. • What situation brought forth the advice • Who/what gave you advice • How you used, modified, ignored the advice and why • The outcome, results, consequences of taking the advice seriously or not. • Application to a specific audience at an event. • Interesting intro, conclusion, transitions, description • This speech will be worth two 4 pt grades

Getting Ideas • By next class, you will need to have 3 pieces of good advice that you could use for this speech – I will check this off as a homework grade. • Could be from friends, family, coaches, teachers, advertising, books, movies, TV, history, quotes • You will also want to develop a hypothetical situation (like a graduation, wedding, TV or radio interview) that would be an appropriate fit for this speech.
