ANSI C12.1-2008 Standard Background • Name: ANSI C12.1-2008 - Electric Meters Code for Electricity Metering • Brief Abstract: This Standard establishes acceptable performance criteria for new types of ac watt-hour meters, demand meters, demand registers, pulse devices and auxiliary devices. It also describes acceptable in-service performance levels for meters and devices used in revenue metering.   • POC: ANSI – American National Standards Institute, and NEMA – National Electrical Manufacturers Association • Why?: The accurate metering of electricity is a keystone of the SmartGrid system. Establishment of performance criteria in all metering devices is necessary to assure accuracy and consistency in the measurement of energy consumption at all levels.
