  2. National Occupational Standards • Three Projects for 2005: • Radiation Protection • Safety Case Preparation • Nuclear Decommissioning • One Steering Group and three Industry Work Groups. • The Steering Group has met twice and the IWGs have met four times.

  3. National Occupational Standards Radiation Protection: • Interim accreditation of Level 2 Qualification. • NOS and Qualification Structure for Levels 2, 3 & 4 developed. • Consultation with the SRP. • Plan to submit NOS etc. to UKCG by end November 2005. • IWG will work with City and Guilds to develop assessment requirements. • New qualification to be in place by August 2006.

  4. National Occupational Standards Safety Case Preparation: • NOS developed and ready for submission to UKCG for approval. • IWG developed draft profile to indicate competence. Possible uses for identifying common development programmes. • NOS to be submitted by end September 2005.

National Occupational Standards Nuclear DecommissioningOperations: • NOS and Qualification Structure for Levels 2 & 3 developed. • Level 3 has two pathways – Technical principally aimed at apprentices and Supervisory principally aimed at the existing workforce. • Plan to submit NOS etc. to UKCG by end October 2005. • New qualifications to be available by August 2006.

  6. National Occupational Standards Next steps for developing National Occupational Standards: • Contextualisation of Management and Leadership NOS for nuclear industry – 2006? • Transportation – 2007?

Foundation Degrees • Foundation degrees are vocational, higher education qualifications • Core features: • Employer involvement • The development of skills and knowledge • Application of skills in the workplace • Progression - within work and/or to an honours degree • Cogent to develop a proposal for development funding to Foundation Degree Forward
