  2. What is Fifth Grade? • A time to become independent, organized, responsible, and self- reliant students capable of consistently turning in high quality work. • Trimester 1 Becoming a fifth grader • Trimester 2 I am a fifth grader • Trimester 3 Becoming a middle schooler

  3. Daily Schedule • Math/Language Arts 8:30-11:40 • Science Instruction 12:30-1:35 • Science Lab Mon. @ 9:00 • Social Studies 1:45-2:40 • PE, Coach Patino Mon/Fri 2:15 • Music, Ms. Lee-Lake Fri. 11:00

  4. Activities • Character Development Mon 1:05 • Library Thurs 12:30 • Enrichment Clubs Tues/Thurs/Fri 1:45 • Computer Lab TBD • Buddies/RiccominiTBD • Art in Action: once per month TBD • Project Cornerstone: once per month TBD

  5. Volunteers* • We love you! • *All Volunteers must have a current clear TB test on file in the office to volunteer • Needs: • Room Parent • Library – Work with students and librarian – Nicole Fichthorn • Field Trips – supervise students • Classroom Volunteers – prep projects, work with small group of students, garden projects, assist with paperwork, bulletin boards…you name it!

  6. Pigeon Point Science Camp • Heidi Plowe, the outdoor education coordinator for Exploring New Horizons Science Camp, • on Wednesday 9/3@ 12:45 presentation concerning all things science camp! All parents are welcome to attend – Room 15. • Science Camp Oct. 8th- 10th Wed.-Fri. • Parent chaperones required

  7. Website • The new and improved Loma Prieta website will help to keep you informed about all school and classroom happenings. • www.loma.k12.ca.us

  8. Accelerated Reader – AR • 5thgrade students read 800,000 words • Accelerated Reader will record the number of words read following each quiz. • Other books (not in AR) will count towards the 800,000 word goal.

  9. Homework and Such • Fifth grade is a critical year for students to develop responsibility and self- reliance. Please help your child to take responsibility for his or her homework. Reports/Projects • Yes….we will have some that require work at home. Plenty of time and complete instructions will be given as assigned.

  10. Student Planners • Essential for success! • Planners are filled out every day except Friday – will help to keep you in the know. • Binders will help students stay organized in the various subjects and prepare for middle school.
