  2. History • Had their first meeting in January 1920. • Known as one of the most storied rivalries in all sports, not just in college basketball. • With the two rivals being located only 10 miles apart, the desire of fans to see their program be victorious is strong.

Interesting Facts • As of Fall 2013, these two programs have played each other a total of 236 times. • The record favors North Carolina with a total of 132 victories to Duke’s 104. • It is difficult to pinpoint one game which led to the establishment of this rivalry as one of the most premier rivalries in the sports.

  4. Interesting Facts • With the continued success achieved each year from both teams, their games often make an impact on both the National and Conference level. • The rivals play each other twice a year.

  5. Interesting Facts • There are a number of unique facts that impact this rivalry. • How close the schools are located to each other. • How different the schools are. • North Carolina is a large public university and Duke is a smaller private institution.

  6. Interesting Facts • The Tarheels play in a 20,000 seat stadium, which is called “Dean Dome.” • Was named after Basketball hall of fame coach, Dean Smith. • Blue Devils play in a 10,000 seat stadium, which is named “Cameron Stadium.” • Which was later named after coach Mike Kryzewski.

  7. Interesting Facts • Coaches from both teams (Coach Roy Williams and Coach Mike Kryzewski) have been enshrined into the basketball hall of fame while still coaching. • This is only true of 5 basketball coaches in the NCAA.
