Issues to be Addressed • LGUs should have a solid grasp of the national government agenda and its relationship to local governance; • LGUs need to build-up the competitiveness and economic capacity of their local area to improve its economic future; • LGUs need to enhance its capacity for climate adaptability and disaster resiliency • Local economic development strategy should be an integral part of the broader strategic planning process that promotes sustainable inclusive growth in the local communities

  3. Program Objective • The NEO Program aims to capacitate the elected officials of 2013, both newly minted and veterans of their positions, to be able to translate their own vision and agenda for their LGU into a feasible plan that they can implement over the course of their term.

Newly Elected Officials Program Provides a foundation that will help local officials to understand and think critically about the organizational, political, and constitutional environment of public service especially that in local governments. The Seal of Good Housekeeping and Seal of Disaster Preparedness was completed and already implemented by the DILG. Other Seals are now being developed. The introduction of various seals aims to bring into the consciousness of the local officials the standards where which they are encouraged to operate. It is hoped to impact the way LGUs go about executing their governance agenda. What it is…….. • A web conferencing service that would allow newly-elected officials to participate in learning events under the NEO Program • It offers information of text-based messages, voice and video chat to be shared to multiple participants simultaneously, across geographical dispersed locations.

  18. Objective • To design and develop a new set of learning materials to enhance competencies of newly-elected officials on local governance and nation building • Participants will be able to: • Appreciate the need and value of life long learning; • Cultivate an innovation-driven mindset and the habit of inquiring to seek knowledge; • Acquire the essential skills and tools needed for self-learning; and • Foster a “bayanihan” culture of community-learning.
