  3. Theme Passage Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

  4. Jesus Fulfilled the Law and the Prophets In that… 1. He met all the requirements. Leviticus 18:5 2. Through his death he met the penalty for all of us who did not fullfill all the requirements of the Law. 3. His life fulfilled all the Messianic expectations—the foreshadows and prefigures in the laws, the sacrifices, the festivals. 4. He expanded the Law of Moses to what God expected it to be all along.

  13. Things I Learn About Jesus From the Prophecies He Fulfilled Matthew 1:22-23 (Isaiah 7:14) The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel” (God-with-us). This tells us that: Jesus is the son of man human Jesus is the son of God God Jesus is God-with-us.

  14. Matthew 2:15 (Hoseah 11:1) Out of Egypt I called my son. Jesus is Saviour. Out of Egypt God called Moses Out of Egypt God called his people Israel. Out of Egypt God called Jesus as the savior of his people Out of Egypt God calls us, all of who are slaves to sin (John 8:31f) Q: Is Jesus your savior? Have you come out of Egypt?

  15. Matt 2:23 (Isaiah 11:1-2, Jeremiah 23:5) He will be called a Nazarene. Nazer = shoot, branch Isaiah 11:1-2, Jeremiah 23:5 Messiah is the branch of Jesse and of David. Meaning: Jesus will be the son or royalty and will himself be a king. Q: Is Jesus your king?

  17. Matthew 21:4-5 Matthew 21:4-5 Riding on a colt. Jesus is King “your king”, but not the kind of king the world expects.

  18. Matt 26:14-16 27:3-10 (Zechariah 11:12,13) I told them, “If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.” so they paid me thirty pieces of silver. (Matthew 26:14-16) And the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—the handsome price at which they priced me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord, to the potter. (Matthew 27:3-8)

  19. Matthew 27:9-10 Jesus is God (Zech 11:13) All of us rejected Jesus. All of us sold him out for the price of a slave. The blood money was used to take care of the needs of Gentiles.

  28. I. Matthew 1:1-2:17 Genealogy and Birth narrative. Theme: “Scriptural proof that Jesus is the expected Messiah.” Genealogy: Matthew 1:1 Jesus the “Son of David.” A resume of salvation history. Four women mentioned. All are Gentiles of obscure birth, and all the births are under some sort of suspicion.

  29. Matthew 1:18-24 Birth Narrative Focuses on Joseph v. 22 “all this” was to fulfill the expectation that God will be with us.

  30. Matthew 2:1-23 God Calls Jesus Out of Egypt Theme: Jesus is the true king of Israel and the second Moses. The Queen of Sheba is the type. The Magi are the antitype.

  31. Visit of the Magi Jesus is the true king of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles. Gentiles are the first to offer worship to the Messiah.

Isaiah 40:3 a voice calling in the desert JTB and Elijah his clothes (2 Kings 1:8), his solitary life, his clash with a king and with his wife (Ahab and Jezebel). Matthew 11:7-15 Jesus quotes Malachi 3:1, Mathew 17:12-13
