  3. Meet Your Teacher • UGA – Bachelor’s Degree • Piedmont College – Master’s and Specialist • GCPS gifted certification ‘04-05 • 15 years teaching (Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd) • Gwinnett County = 10 years • DCES CHARTER STAFF MEMBER!! 

  9. Second Grade Curriculum2010-2011 • Thinking Skills Programs used all year include • Logic Links • Primarily Creativity/Primarily Logic • Venn Perplexors • Primary Education Thinking Skills 2 • Logic Safari • Sodoku

  10. FOCUS Homework • Projects (if there are any) will be assigned at the beginning of each unit with occasional assignments given throughout. • Parents’ role in all homework is one of support while encouraging independence.

  11. FOCUS Performance Levels Level 4 - Student consistently shows initiative and commitment to tasks, goes beyond AKS extension requirements, and works in a timely, self-sufficient manner. Level 3 - Student consistently demonstrates mastery of AKS extensions and/or successfully completes required tasks in allocated time. Level 2 - Student inconsistently demonstrates mastery of AKS extensions and/or has difficulty completing required tasks in allocated time. Level 1 - Student does not exhibit sufficient mastery of AKS extensions and/or is unable to complete required tasks in allocated time. Conduct: E= Surpasses standards S= Satisfactory/meets standards N= Needs improvement U= Unsatisfactory

Gwinnett County Policy FOCUS Enrollment • Students will remain in the FOCUS program unless FOCUS class work becomes unacceptable. • Parent / teacher conference is required to make a Plan of Improvement. • After Plan of Improvement has been agreed upon and implemented, second conference will determine continued placement. • If Dismissed, student must remain out for one full year and be retested for placement.
