  1. European GNSS Evolution Programme 2013-15 IWG, New Delhi, India, 05 Feb 2014

  2. OVERVIEW • Initiated 2013 in EGEP • EGEP Workplan 2014

  3. G2G DEVELOPMENTS STARTED 1 • Prerequisite for G2G to keep launch costs of larger platforms in present launch cost envelope • E. g. 3 sats in Soyuz ST or 1 sat in VEGA • Transfer time of 12 months requires new launch strategy • First contract kicked-off Dec. 2013, second one follows in Feb. 2014 ELECTRICAL PROPULSION SUBSYSTEM INDUSTRIALIZATION AND THRUSTER OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISATION

  4. G2G DEVELOPMENTS STARTED 2 • Follows Galileo-1 after 2021 • Flexibility to replenish in different planes w/ one single launch • Increasing Galileo payload capability (ISL, increased signal power levels, upgraded PRS, more robustness, etc.) • Two parallel contracts kicked off in Dec. 2013, third one follows GALILEO 2ndGENERATION SPACE SEGMENT PHASE A/B1

  5. G2G DEVELOPMENTS STARTED 3 • Improved Security • Less dependence on ground segment • Lower number of GDDN connections • Improved command capabilities within seconds • Improved Accuracy Performance • Smaller ODTS UERE, faster convergence after maneuvers, improves integrity/RAIM, AUTONAV • Additional Benefits • Sounding of atmosphere • Activity kicked off in Dec. 2013 INTER-SATELLITE LINK PRE-DEVELOPMENT

  6. G2G DEVELOPMENTS STARTED 4 • KO in Sept 2013, currently at PDR • ODTS using ISL and G1G lessons learnt • Negotiations w/ selected bidder presently • Improved PRS (classified activity) • Evaluation presently going-on G2G SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES • Development of Advanced Multi- constellation Signal & Interference Testbed • Enhancement of Orbit Determination & Time Synchronisation • PRS Signal Robustness

  7. G2G DEVELOPMENTS STARTED 5 • Ends Q2/2014 (cont’d in 2014) • Ends Q2 /2014 (cont’d in 2014) • Finished Q4/2013 (cont’d in 2014) CLOCK DEVELOPMENTS • Miniaturized low-maintenance PHM • Robust RAFS • Caesium clock

  8. G2G DEVELOPMENTS STARTED 6 G2G SYSTEM ENGINEERING STARTED Joint G2G System Engineering Office established System Support from Industry under negotiation

  9. EGNOS NEXT GENERATION V3 1 • Thales-F: Phase B2 started • Astrium-D: Phase B2 starts end of Jan. 2014 • Proposals presently evaluated / clarified • Parallel activities w/ IFEN and GMV Skysoft end Q1/2014 • EGNOS V3 Phase A/B1/B2 (2 parallel contracts) • RIMS V3 Prototype (2 parallel contracts) • ARAIM (2 parallel contracts)

  10. EGNOS NEXT GENERATION V3 2 • Q1/2014 • KO Jan 2014 • HISTB KO Jan 2014 • NISTB KO Jan 2014 SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES • Standardization • Ionosphere characterization • Two parallel Testbeds on V3 Integrity

  11. AO SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY • Scientific applications of Galileo (GNSS) and EGNOS • Innovative proposals on technology for the evolution of Galileo and EGNOS • Two step procedure: First extended abstracts, then pre-selection of invited bidders and submission of full proposals • Submitted abstracts: 29 science, 41 technology • Pre-selection took place • Requests for full proposals in preparation

  12. EGEP WORKPLAN 2014 EGNOS NEXT GENERATION V3 • Continuation of EGNOS V3 Testbeds (Part 3) - HISTB Q3/2014 - NISTB Q3/2014 GALILEO NEXT GENERATION (G2G) • On-board Clock Ensemble CMCU new • Miniaturised low-maintenance PHM (cont’d) • ARAIM Detailed Threat Allocation and Barriers Q2/2014 • Next Generation Signal Generator (cont’d for PRS) • Robust RAFS (cont’d) • On-board Caesium Clock Design Consolidation •Ground Caesium Development Prop. under evaluation • 2nd Call AO Science and Technology Q2/2014
