Alan Shapherd • On may 5th 1961 Alan Shepard is the first American to be in space. • On May 25th 1961 president John F Kennedy announces a challenge to all countries “I make a challenge to all countries listening America will land a man on the moon before any other countries.” • Russia took the challenge very seriously .

  3. . Febuary 20th 1962 American John Glenn orbits the Earth 3 times . The most amount of times in history. • October 3rd 1962 American Walter Schirra orbits the Earth 6 times breaking the old record by 3

  4. October 17th 1963 cosmonaut ValentiaTereshcova becomes the first woman in space. • July 31st 1964 Ranger 7 sends the first close up photos of the moons surface . • June 3rd 1965 Ed white does Americas first space walk .

  5. Luna 11 becomes the first satellite to orbit the moon more than once . • September 15th 1968 Zond 5 is the first space vehicle to go aroundthe moon and come back to Earth .

  6. July 16th 1969 Apollo 11 blasts off from Cape Kennedy . • July 20th 1969 Apollo 11 lands on the moon and Neil Armstrong is to be the first man to walk on the moon followed by Buzz Aldrin!!
