The Moon The Moon. A Mystery By: Tess Bainbridge. What is t he Moon?. The moon was made about 4.5 billion years ago when an object about the size of Mars (2106 miles) hit the earth. It blasted out rocks that came together to orbit around earth. They then melted together to form the moon.

What is the Moon? The moon was made about 4.5 billion years ago when an object about the size of Mars (2106 miles) hit the earth. It blasted out rocks that came together to orbit around earth. They then melted together to form the moon.
How far Away is the Moon? The moon is 240,000 miles away from earth. It takes 3 days to reach it by space craft.
The Moon’s Effect on Earth Earth and the newly formed moon exerted a gravitational force on each other. The moon slowed the rotation of the earth and lengthening the day from 5 hours to 24.
