  2. Planets History Earth’s symbol has man interpitations of what it represents. The most common and accepted reasoning is that the circluar part represents the globe, and the two intersecting lines represent the four points on a compass. Planets Name Nobody is sure how earth got its name. However the name Earth is a derived from both German and English.

  3. Order and Orbit • Earth is the third planet from the sun. • Its 149.5 km from the sun. • Its full orbit around the sun takes 365 days and to rotate on it takes a full 24 hours.

  6. Moons and Rings Earth has no rings orbiting around it. It does have one moon that orbits around earth and goes through phases based on its position of the sun and earth.

  7. Facts • Earth is the only planet not named after a god or goddess. • Of all the planets in our solar system, the Earth has the greatest density • 70% of earths surface is covered with water
