This forum discussion, led by Nick Scott from the School of Business, explores how vUWS Groups can effectively facilitate team collaboration in a blended learning context. Key objectives include developing workplace skills in small team management and achieving collaborative tasks within deadlines. The semester-long project allows students to work in dynamically changing teams, fostering diverse collaboration. Each chapter involves dedicated roles where members contribute to research and editing using integrated collaboration tools, such as a central Wiki, to enhance document management and streamline communication.

Why is vUWS Groups useful in my unit? One of my objectives: “[gaining] workplace skills related to small team management and collaborative task achievement within a deadline”. Student s do one semester-long Project with five sequential sections (‘chapters’). Each chapter has 2 – 3 weeks for completion. The Project is published on vUWS as a public document. They change teams for each chapter so that they work with everyone else in the class. Each team has 5 researchers/writers each answering a specific question, and 1 Editor responsible for team coordination, research assistance and submission quality.
Why use Groups workspace on vUWS? To keep the teams working within vUWSas a central focus of this unit’s organisation. The Wiki: rather than emailing each other various versions, a current version can be seen and edited. Idea from Google Docs: Demo The collaboration tools: (1) standard tools provided for efficient use in each chapter, (2) tools that enable integrated collaboration.
