  5. Level 1 Expectations Homework Policy: • Homework is worth no more than 20% of your grade in any Level 1 class • No late homework will be accepted except in the case of an excused absence. You have the number of days you are absent to makeup missed assignments. Projects Policy: • Late projects will have 20 pts deducted from the the total points available Turn in your homework and projects on time!

  6. Classroom Expectations 1. BE ON TIME Please be in the room and ready to learn when the bell rings. 2. BE PREPARED Please bring ALL necessary class materials: pen or pencil, agenda, homework, etc… 3. BE RESPECTFUL Respect peers, teachers, materials, and self 4. ALWAYS USE AGENDA HALL PASS No Agenda Hall Pass = Not allowed to leave, Sign In/out Binder 5. FOLLOW ALL SCHOOL RULES & TEACHER EXPECTATIONS

  9. Stems, List #1 What are Stems? • “Stem” means to originate or where something begins • Stems can be a prefix, root word, or suffix • Stems help us learn more about the words we read Create 3 column chart: stem, definition, example

Fighting Invisible Tigers by Earl Hipp • Get out your summer reading work • Share your list of 10 quotes with your table. • How did you come up with your list? • Circle your top 2 items on your list • Underline 1 item on your list that you already do well • Share out with your class • Turn in your paragraph and list in your classroom basket at the end of class

  11. Summer Reading Book • Choose a partner at your table group. • Share what book you chose and why you chose it. • Did you like the book? Why or why not? • Would you like for your partner to read the book? Why or why not? • What does a book review look like?

  12. Book Review ProjectA Day Due: September 5th B Day due: September 6th What is a Book Review? A review contains a summary or description of the book you read. It also contains a critique of the book. The goal of the writer is to provide a balanced opinion of the book. Your review must contain: • A summary or description of the book including the title and author. Give a brief beginning, middle, and end of the book. • A balanced opinion of the book with support for your opinions. What did you like? What did you not like? • A strong conclusion that wraps up the key points, but does not give away the ending or important conclusions.
