  2. Mechanical Sensing System • Goals for project • Conduct initial literature review • Select an appropriate distance sensor and a pressure sensor to interface with a system • Use LabVIEW to measure the signals from the sensors and display on a computer

Distance Sensor Interfaces SICK DT10 Keyence IL-100 Has an option to have an RS-232 adapter, eliminating the need for a DAQ Total price: ~$1789 Resolution of 0.004 mm More expensive, but much better resolution • Has an analog voltage or current that can be plugged into the DAQ • Must buy a DAQ that costs around $1000 • Total price: ~$1300 • Resolution of 3mm • Cheaper, but less resolution

  18. Recommended choices • Displacement sensor: SICK DT10, $389. Reasons: • Reasonable resolution (3 mm) • Interfaces with DAQ via wires and analog current • DAQ can be used with other sensors • Pressure sensor: SensibleUI, $399. However, currently sold out and need to wait to order. • Reasons: • Other sensors are >$5k or are not interfacable/don’t show a pressure distribution

  19. Other goals • Order the pressure sensor • Create a contour plot of force generated from the pressure sensor • Actuate the mechanical system and control it via LabVIEW • Create publication
