  1. October is National Sarcasm Awareness Month! Thursday, October 11th Get out a piece of paper for your notes. Write down yesterday’s sentence: When Avery arrived home from school her friends met her at the door and they led her into her own surprise birthday party. (With the correct commas and notes to yourself as to why the commas are in the place you chose.)

  2. Write the following sentence down as well. Place commas in the correct place. • Since everyone enjoys being fooled a magician I believe provides excellent entertainment. • There are three commas. Try this one . . .

  3. Get out your Chapter Ten quotations and your book. • Make sure your best quotation/analysis is starred. • Move your desks into a circle. • Class run discussion regarding these quotations/author’s purpose. I will sat back and watch and make notes—just call me Jim Lehrer. • Everyone speaks at least once. • No interrupting. • Treat everyone’s opinion or idea with respect. • Use other’s ideas as a springboard for your own. • Use phrases like, “I agree,” “I like what you said,” “I find it interesting that,” “I disagree because,” “I’m not sure I understand what you mean,” etc. Chapter X Quotations
