Vitamins • body needs them to work properly • stored in the fat tissues in your body, liver • (A, D, E, K) • Water-soluble vitamins are different • (B,C) • travel through your bloodstream • List of food • whole grains, such as wheat and oats • fish and seafood • poultry and meats • eggs • dairy products, like milk and yogurt • leafy green vegetables • beans and peas

  3. Minerals • help your body grow • body uses minerals to perform many different functions • used to make hormones • Calcium is the top macromineral when it comes to your bones • helps build strong bones

  4. Water • Without water, body would stop working properly • needs water • carries oxygen to all the cells of your body • also in lymph • helps you fight off illness • needed for digestive juices

  5. Fibre • adds no calories • found in plant foods like fruits, vegetables, grains • 25 grams+ needed each day • Types

  6. Protein • builds, maintains, and replaces body tissues • carries oxygen to every part of your body • Other proteins are used to build cardiac muscle

  7. Carbs • the body's most important and readily available source of energy • are broken down into simple sugars • the sugar can be used as energy

  8. Fats • a component in food • have plenty of fat • include nuts, oils, butter, and meats like beef • important part of a healthy diet • some kids will eat 2,000 calories in a day
